T O P I C R E V I E WRob JoynerCan you believe this?! I find it hard to believe that someone would be so cruel as to post stills from a sci-fi movie and call them authentic photos of one of the world's most horrible space tragedies! And to make matters worse, they had to bring Israel into it. I feel so bad for anyone, especially of Israeli descent, who, even at first, took these photos to be real. When I first saw them this morning in disbelief that something like this could've been captured on film, I stood back and actually looked at the photos. It's clear that the 'shuttle' is in orbit and belly down. There are no red highlights on the nose or leading wing edge or plasma surrounding the ship. And there was no 'explosion' per se. Columbia broke apart gradually.I sincerely hope the authorities can locate the person(s) responsible for this sick hoax and prosecute to the full extent, though I feel even that would not be enough. Terraforming MarsWhat Photos are you talking about?Robert PearlmanRob, the prank you describe is a year old, dating back to mere days after the Columbia accident. Its also well debunked: http://www.snopes.com/photos/shuttle2.asp http://www.io.com/~o_m/columbia_loss_faq_s5.html#phony_photos How was it did you come to see them now?[This message has been edited by Robert Pearlman (edited February 24, 2004).]Rob JoynerI can't believe I didn't hear about these photos before, being that it's been a year. A friend had received an email this past weekend from one of his friends with the photos attached. Evidently, neither one of them had seen them before either.Sorry to have rekindled thoughts of a bad hoax.Rob[This message has been edited by Rob Joyner (edited February 24, 2004).]Larrythey are making the rounds via e-mailI tried to set the person straight who sent them to me, but ignorant seemed to be there middle name.ScottReminds me of that tasteless faked "Tourist" photo of the man on the WTC Observation Deck with the plane coming towards him from behind. That was a pretty amateur job of fakery but tons of people fell for it, too.Hawkman quote:Originally posted by Scott:Reminds me of that tasteless faked "Tourist" photo of the man on the WTC Observation Deck with the plane coming towards him from behind.
